Senior Solution Architect

Job Description

What It's About

Join the Business Applications Group at Partners Group. We design, optimize, and evolve business application solutions across the firm, working hand-in-hand with business teams to deliver high-quality, well-architected solutions. Our work spans in-house, SaaS, and cloud-based applications operating in a fully cloud-native environment.

We are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to play a prominent role in shaping our architecture design capabilities. In this role, your primary focus will be on driving architecture and solution design within your delivery group, while also contributing to the broader Business Applications Group platform — spanning Front Office (Investments & Sales) and Corporate functions. You will be engaged across the entire solution lifecycle — from translating business requirements into efficient, well-structured designs, through guiding development and integration efforts, providing architectural expertise for complex production issues when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Within your Delivery Group

Authority & Ownership

Serve as the primary architecture authority within your delivery group, owning solution design decisions and ensuring architectural coherence across the group's application landscape

Own the full solution lifecycle for your delivery group's applications:

Translate business requirements into efficient and scalable solution designs

Guide development and integration efforts, contributing hands-on when needed to validate architectural decisions or unblock teams

Provide architectural expertise for root-cause analysis and resolution of complex production issues

Lead the evolution of current business applications within your delivery group to optimize the underlying architecture

Act as the escalation point for critical technical issues, driving resolution in collaboration with engineering and operations teams

Business Alignment & Collaboration

Develop deep domain expertise in the business areas your delivery group supports, and leverage that understanding to design technology solutions that directly address business needs and unlock new opportunities

Establish and build strong relationships with business stakeholders across your delivery group's domain to drive their understanding of the solution architecture vision and roadmap

Coordinate with developers, engineers, and cross-functional teams within your group to solve business problems

Contribute to iterative planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery within Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)

Innovation & Advisory

Evaluate emerging technologies, engineering practices, and vendor solutions for applicability within the delivery group's solution landscape, providing well-founded recommendations to leadership

People & Governance

Guide junior colleagues within your group and validate their architectural designs

Thoroughly understand and guide team members on the compliance, security, and operational responsibilities in your area of work

Across the Business Applications Group

Contribute to building up the architecture design capabilities across the wider Business Applications Platform, sharing knowledge, patterns, and lessons learned from your delivery group

Contribute to the definition of best-in-class reference architectures and solution design standards that apply across the entire platform

Contribute to understanding the relevant industry and regulatory requirements on a solution architecture when deciding on new applications or the evolution of existing applications

Promote consistency and reuse across delivery groups by advocating for shared design patterns, common components, and platform-wide best practices

Evaluate and recommend vendor solutions, SaaS platforms, and third-party components at the platform level, ensuring they align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and long-term strategic direction

Collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams across the globe, fostering alignment and knowledge sharing across locations and time zones

What We Expect

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline

At least 8 years of professional experience in solution architecture, software engineering, or a similar role

Proven track record of leading architecture efforts end-to-end — from requirements analysis and solution design through to development guidance, deployment, and production support — with a willingness to contribute hands-on where needed to validate designs or unblock teams

Hands-on experience with the development and integration of software solutions in enterprise environments, with the ability to prototype, validate, and guide engineering teams through implementation

Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language; experience with Python and/or Java is ideal

Understanding of relational databases and SQL; experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and how they fit into enterprise data architectures is a strong plus

Experience designing and building APIs, including RESTful services and adherence to OpenAPI specifications, is a strong plus; familiarity with modern integration patterns, event-driven architectures

Good understanding of how major cloud hyperscalers operate (AWS, Azure, GCP) and practical hands-on experience with at least one of them

Experience with cloud cost optimization strategies — such as right-sizing, reserved capacity planning, resource tagging, and FinOps practices — to ensure solution designs are cost-efficient and sustainable at scale is a strong plus

Solid understanding of security-by-design principles, secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, and compliance-driven architecture; experience embedding operational resilience, data protection, and regulatory considerations into solution design from the outset

Experience documenting and presenting solution architectures to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to produce clear architectural artifacts such as design documents, diagrams, and decision records

Proven experience leading small cross-functional teams and coordinating with developers and engineers to deliver business outcomes

Comfortable working with geographically distributed teams across multiple time zones

Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to constantly improve the status quo

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Good to have

Awareness of current AI-related trends and technologies, with an openness to evaluating and applying AI-assisted software engineering practices where they can improve solution quality and delivery efficiency

Knowledge about emerging interface standards such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) and GraphQL

Experience leveraging generative AI techniques to enhance the capability and intelligence of business applications — such as RAG, agentic AI workflows, advanced prompt engineering, and embedding-based search and knowledge retrieval systems

Experience with incident management and root-cause analysis, with the ability to provide architectural guidance for the resolution of complex production issues in enterprise applications

Experience with observability best practices for distributed systems — including structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics collection using modern tooling (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)

Experience evaluating and recommending vendor solutions, SaaS platforms, and third-party technologies within an enterprise architecture context

Experience working in or building solutions for financial services is highly desirable
