Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Job Description

Responsibilities

Carry out troubleshooting and corrective action of instrument breakdown or failures to find root cause and determine best solution to restore normal functionality.

Respond to technical queries from operation personnel and provide advice or solutions following best engineering practice to address issues affecting power plant operation.

Follow C&I work instructions and propose changes for improvement when necessary.

Lead execution of shutdown works for instrumentation to ensure completion on time.

Work closely with various sections to coordinate cross‑functional maintenance works.

Perform risk assessment prior to work start and conduct on‑job risk assessment to identify residual risks associated with planned/unplanned work.

Monitor spare parts and inventory for critical instrumentation to ensure availability when required, establish new inventory/cataloging where necessary, and update information to keep it relevant.

Provide technical inputs throughout procurement processes for materials and service requisition so that all technical requirements are addressed properly to protect company interest.

Identify, study, propose, and implement areas for improvement in instrumentation engineering to enhance operation and overall equipment reliability.

Supervise on‑site contractors and additional suppliers’ C&I technicians as well as C&I vendors to perform site works, review their work procedures and instructions to ensure compliance and achieve highest quality of work safely.

Participate actively in meetings, discussions, and initiatives by the team relevant to the job role and business needs to safeguard company interest.

Populate inputs into the Computerized Materials and Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure accurate data and history of equipment maintenance activities.

Provide inputs to Planning Engineer regarding instrument maintenance activities for consolidation.

Qualifications

Possess a degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering or Electronics and Electrical Engineering with at least seven (7) years of working experience in the instrumentation field, or a diploma in the same fields with at least ten (10) years of working experience in instrumentation field.

Proficient in codes and standards in the power plant industry (BSI, ISO27001, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, etc.).

Strong interpersonal skills; a team player able to work with all levels of management and multinational staff.

Hands‑on experience in field instrumentation and sensors of different makes.

Proficient in power plant DCS and HMI systems; experience with ABB Advant DCS and GE Alspa DCS is an advantage.

Proficient in any power plant PLC control system.

Proficient in P&ID, loop diagram, process functional flow diagram and familiar with gas turbine / steam turbine operations and protection concepts.

Cyber security knowledge in Operation Technology is an added advantage.
