Sr Engineer, Firmware Development (SSD)

As a Firmware Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will build groundbreaking high-performance controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You will assist in the evaluation, creation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analysis of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and Solid State Drives (SSD) that will improve performance, while reducing power, latency and SoC complexity for the target sectors. You can expect to partner with multi-disciplinary Engineers to seek multi-functional product development issues. You will triage failures, file bug reports, and help the development teams with isolating issues.

Responsibilities

Assist in evaluation, creation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analysis of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and SSDs.

Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products that meet or exceed the requirements of the technical spec matrix, including performance, endurance, capacity, functionality, and quality/reliability.

Develop firmware unit and functional tests that ensure firmware subsystems meet quality, functional, and performance requirements at each integration point in the product development lifecycle.

Provide consistent, detailed, and accurate summaries of firmware development activities to management and team members.

Work collaboratively with peers and management to maintain constructive relationships and drive team morale and productivity.

Continuously improve technical and communication skills.

Qualifications

Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Excellent communication skills.

Minimum 2 years of embedded firmware development and debugging experience.

Expertise in programming languages such as C and Rust, and in programming tools & environments.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience with team leadership and/or supervising engineers and technicians.

Experience with Python programming is an advantage.

Experience with storage interfaces, ideally PCIe/NVMe, is a plus.

Experience with NAND flash and other non-volatile storage is a plus.

Experience in the storage industry, storage systems, or related technology is advantageous.

Experience in conduct analysis, design, performing programming, debugging, and modifying software.

Proficiency in resolving code problems for firmware applications.
