Principal Software Development Engineer In Test

Role & responsibilities

Define and lead the test automation and quality engineering strategy across products and engineering teams.

Design scalable automation frameworks and test architectures for UI, API, mobile, microservices, and distributed systems.

Develop and maintain automation using Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, and Appium.

Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub/GitLab, and Azure DevOps.

Drive shift-left testing, continuous testing, quality gates, and automated regression across the SDLC.

Lead performance, integration, end-to-end, API, and reliability testing initiatives.

Define testing standards, frameworks, tools, metrics, and engineering best practices.

Collaborate with Software Engineers, DevOps, Product, Security, and Architecture teams to improve product quality.

Mentor SDETs and automation engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple teams.

Evaluate emerging testing technologies and drive continuous improvement in quality engineering and test automation.

Preferred candidate profile

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related field.

5 to 10 years of experience in SDET, test automation, software engineering, or quality engineering.

Strong programming skills in Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

Expert hands-on experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, TestNG, JUnit, PyTest, or Cucumber.

Strong experience in API testing, REST, microservices, integration, regression, end-to-end, and performance testing.

Experience designing automation frameworks, test architecture, reusable libraries, and parallel/distributed test execution.

Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure/GCP, and DevOps.

Experience with SQL, databases, Linux, test data management, mocking, and service virtualization.

Strong understanding of Agile, SDLC/STLC, shift-left testing, TDD/BDD, quality engineering, and test strategy.

Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, architecture design, stakeholder management, and cross-team influence.

ISTQB, cloud, Kubernetes, or DevOps certifications are an advantage.
